The Juan Garcia Farmworker Scholarship
was founded to assist students who are farmworkers or children of farmworkers who demonstrate, by hard work and academic achievement, a desire to better their lives by pursuing higher education.
A LETTER FROM MARIA CASTILLO, FOUNDER OF JGFS:
2025 has been a challenging year for our scholars and their families. Our student scholars have led hard lives and have survived with courage and resilience. Even with all that’s been going with ICE raids, this year’s 40 scholarship recipients worked hard through the summer to earn money for college and are determined more than ever to succeed in college to help their parents.
But we can only reach them with your support. Your tax-deductible donations to JGFS gives confidence and direct financial support to our scholars. Please visit our DONATE page or mail your donation to the address in the footer. Remember 100% of your donation goes to the graduates.
Our annual LA Fiesta fundraiser continues in its 11th year next May. Mariachi, good food and libations await, as well an awesome opportunity to meet supporters and student scholars. Find out more on our Events page. Or subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of this page for the best way to stay updated with developments.
With gratitude,
Maria Castillo
The scholarship serves as a memorial to Juan Garcia who was a farmworker from the time he was a child in Mexico in a small family farm in Teocaltiche, Jalisco until he retired at the age of 65 years old in Reedley, CA.
All students who are from farmworker families are eligible to apply for the scholarship. It is for those who have worked hard in school and demonstrated Juan’s own admirable qualities of responsibility, diligence, gratitude, and perseverance. It is for those who recognize that college will require hard work and are willing to do what is required to succeed there and beyond.
The Juan Garcia Farmworker Scholarship is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. 100% of your donation goes to the scholarship recipients and is tax deductible. For information contact us at JGFScholarship@gmail.com.
