The Juan Garcia Farmworker Scholarship
was founded to assist students who are farmworkers or children of farmworkers who demonstrate, by hard work and academic achievement, a desire to better their lives by pursuing higher education.
A LETTER FROM MARIA CASTILLO, FOUNDER OF JGFS:
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, 2024 was JGFS’s most impactful year. We have seen scholarship applications rebound the last two years, and we awarded 44 scholarships to the Class of 2024. Our goals are to also give another round of JGFS Continuing Scholars scholarships to JGFS scholars in their second year+ of college.
Please visit our DONATE page or mail your donation to the address in the footer. Remember 100% of your donation goes to the graduates.
Our annual LA Fiesta Fundraiser has continued to be a success and an awesome opportunity to meet supporters and student scholars. We hope you’ll stay tuned for details on our spring fundraiser. Or subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of this page.
With gratitude,
Maria Castillo
The scholarship serves as a memorial to Juan Garcia who was a farmworker from the time he was a child in Mexico in a small family farm in Teocaltiche, Jalisco until he retired at the age of 65 years old in Reedley, CA.
All students who are from farmworker families are eligible to apply for the scholarship. It is for those who have worked hard in school and demonstrated Juan’s own admirable qualities of responsibility, diligence, gratitude, and perseverance. It is for those who recognize that college will require hard work and are willing to do what is required to succeed there and beyond.
The Juan Garcia Farmworker Scholarship is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. 100% of your donation goes to the scholarship recipients and is tax deductible. For information contact us at JGFScholarship@gmail.com.
